Real Estate – It’s Real

October 18, 2011

In the way that surf rock is evocative of the California Coast, Real Estate’s brand of low-fi, psychedelic rock, is evocative of long drives on the Jersey Turnpike. But, more than a band that elucidates the subtleties of a region, Real Estate has a message of simplicity. Their new album, Days, asks its listener to quit worrying, quit over-thinking, quit the mental masturbation, and simply come to grips with the fact that “It’s Real”–that this is it and all there is. It’s a heavy message, but it works, and that’s the magic of Real Estate: they’re ambitious musicians, but they manage to seem as though they’re barely trying at all.
