Photocomfort – My Mistake
For one true bastions of culture in the United States, Boston sure does not produce a whole lot of good indie rock. Sure, the experimental and hardcore scene in Beantown is as good as it gets, but few major indie bands seem to come out of MA. Photocomfort, the side project of the female Magic Man vocalist, is an example of a new generation of Boston musicians. “My Mistake” opens with a collage of xylophone and piano that is evocative of Debussy’s “Clare de Lune’s” ethereality. But then, suddenly the track picks up and settles into a tempo and sonic attitude that you might find Regina Spector inhabiting. It’s a catchy tune with a great hook, and hopefully the first of many from Photocomfort.
