Boog Brown – Detroit

January 27, 2012

Home is a strange place–a land we are inextricably tied to and associated with regardless of our feelings about it. Like family, we don’t chose our home, yet it will always be a component of our identity. Boog Brown is an Atlanta girl, but she is originally from Detroit, and this track can be seen as more than just a low-fi, R&B ode to her hometown, but a mini-meditation on leaving home. So, when she spouts lines like “Home is where the heart is, regardless of how dark it is, I represent,” it’s all said with a sense of nostalgic guilt that colors the track in a beautiful sort of way. Boog Brown is rereleasing The Brown Study in March.
