Robin Pecknold – Olivia, In A Separate Bed

February 25, 2012

On “Olivia, In A Separate Bed,” Robin Pecknold stands in front of us naked, shattering the boundary most artists try to maintain between their public personas and their private, “real” selves. With just vocals and some understated guitar, Pecknold bravely gives a performance that possesses the kind of unawareness and honesty that can usually only be captured when you’re alone in a room that has no windows or mirrors. This track is more than sonically rewarding, but a privileged peak at an artist who is attempting to articulate an experience that defies articulation–heartbreak. Pecknold says the track is bound to change with time, but hearing it so fresh off the presses is part of what gives it its magic.
