Ava Luna – Past The Barbary

March 31, 2012

With the manic energy of a dog that’s finally been let out of a car after a long drive, Ava Luna simply wants to do everything, all the time, all at once. Playing with such a wide variety of generic tropes, the band doesn’t doesn’t just defy classification, they make it a stupid exercise. On “Past the Barbary,” Carlos Hernandez dabbles in electro-funk, R&B and some strange incarnation of David Longstrethian experimental-pop, and the result is a tune that is simultaneously hard to describe and easy to listen to.
