Beach House – Lazuli

April 20, 2012

There’s an intimacy to Victoria Legrand’s vocals, as if every lyric might be an aside to a close friend or a lover. It makes the listener feel like they’re privy to something, included in and invited to Legrand’s nostalgic, dream world, and the result is that every album, every track and every note is imbued with with a wonderfully relatable and accessible humanness. “Lazuli” combines that intimacy with an epic and larger-than-life mentality that really allows Beach House to soar, for it’s that dichotomy between sonic smallness and bigness that makes this band one the best we’ve got.
