Chromatics – Kill For Love

April 6, 2012

Chromatics are sparkly — each shimmer of the high-hat and each vocal melody feeling like it was born out of a nostalgic dream about how great the 80’s were. But this isn’t a band that is generically tied to a specific place or time, in fact, “Kill For Love” is a track that plays with sonic tropes from various genres and generations. Most impressive is the composition of this tune; it demonstrates a deep understanding of what makes for easily digestible but totally interesting pop. Johnny Jewel’s production keeps the track active and alive, while Ruth Radelet’s laid-back vocals serve as a lovely reminder that everything is going to be alright. “Kill For Love” is the title track off our Chromatics new album, a collection of tunes that make picking out a single pretty tough.
