Kanye West – Mercy

April 16, 2012

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was a sonic and cultural diamond — a piece of art that is both so intrinsically and contextually strong, that any imperfections it might have actually add to its overall perfection. After producing a work that will exist in the rap canon for some time, West finds himself in world where every note he sings or track he releases will, for better or worse, be colored by the success of what may have been his climactic album. “Mercy,” like a lot of Watch The Throne has that epic, all-enveloping scope combined with the signature tortured Kanye West darkness. With all the featured artists on this one and the collection of sonic bells and whistles, it’s clear that after elucidating his soul on “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” Kanye needs to take a bit of a backseat.
