Animal Collective – Honeycomb

May 9, 2012

It’s been said that on Merriweather Post Pavilion, Animal Collective took an enormous leap toward the mainstream. Sure, it was a more palatable album full of uncharacteristic hooks and symmetry, but it still had that patented Animal Collective cacophonous sound — organized sonic chaos. “Honeycomb” feels like it could have been born out of the band around five years ago. The composition is manic, hectic and crowded, but laid under Avey Tare’s vocals, it somehow ends up being utterly catchy and warm.
