Dirty Projectors – You Against The Larger World
If you see the Dirty Projectors live, you realize that there are few bands that are tighter — few bands that are so obviously the result of such an inordinate amount of practice. There would be no other way to pull off the strange tempo switches, the patented hocketting and the complex arrangements. In short, this is a band about precision and, for lack of a better word, “chops.” “You Against The Larger World” is a piece of flotsam that was tossed overboard during the making of upcoming album, Swing Lo Magellan, and it offers a dressed-down peek at musical genius who we usually only get to sneak glances at from behind a ton of layers. Although this tune didn’t make the 14-track cut, it’s still worth a listen — there’s nothing like going through someone else’s garbage to find out who they are and what they are about.
