Ty Segall – Wave Goodbye

May 4, 2012

Goodbye Bread was, relatively speaking, a tame release. It exhibited a mellower side of Ty Segall that we aren’t normally privy to, as if the album was recorded just after Segall had finished a good screaming session and didn’t have the energy to keep fighting. Well, if “Wave Goodbye” is any indication, the fight is back on. This track feels like it was screamed into a tin can telephone that we are on the other end of, and the absolute trudge-through-the-mud heaviness of the distorted guitar adds a bluesy weight to the guttural garage rock sound. Segall, as usual, totally pulls it off, managing to be bold and bombastic, but still personal and relatable.
