jj – 10

June 28, 2012

The proverbial summer tune usually has a couple of beach-rock or beach-pop tropes that earn that label, but jj’s new EP, High Summer, manages to be evocative of the heat, energy and flavor of the summer months without relying on the predicable generic tricks. A swedish duo composed of Joakim Benon and Elin Kastlander, jj is all about mood and pace. On “10”, Kastlander stretches out every word, every syllable, as if the season’s heat has everything moving in slow motion. It’s not a track with a hook, but it’s also a track that doesn’t need one. Instead, it simply meanders and roams with all the aimlessness and carefreeness that define the summer months.
