Purity Ring – Fineshrine

June 22, 2012

“Get a little closer, let fold / Cut open my sternum, and pull.” It’s not exactly your classic lyrical hook, but Megan James takes the macabre and turns it on its head, injecting light into the dark, warmth into the frigid. The result is a tune that uses the abject as its play thing, evoking the brevity that can be found even in moments of pain. “Fineshrine” is Purity Ring’s best track to date; it’s wildly catchy and endearingly strange — a successful balancing act in both a sonic and thematic sense.
