Future Islands – Cotton Flower

July 12, 2012

Future Islands is a band of sonic and thematic contradictions — simultaneously futuristic and nostalgic, warm and calloused, bright and hopeless. It’s the dichotomy between their signature fluttery 80’s synth-pop sound and the unmistakable jagged cries of frontman Samuel Herring, whose vocals sound about as raw as the emotions he’s evoking, that creates strikes a perfect balance somewhere between the two extremes. “Cotton Flower”, a hard driving and dark track as far as Future Islands goes, is half of a charity 7″ being put out by indie label Famous Class.
