Grizzly Bear – Yet Again

August 7, 2012

As popular and commercially successful as Grizzly Bear get, they’ve always sounded like a thoughtful and deliberate “mom and pop” production. That is, there was always an romantic, boyish intimacy behind the vocals of Daniel Rossen and Ed Droste that made the band feel best enjoyed during late nights in lonely rooms. But tracks like “Yet Again” — a release off of the upcoming Shields — indicates a shift in the generic space Grizzly Bear plays in. It’s not that they’ve lost that endearingly intimate sound that put them on the map, but that they’ve managed to strike a balance between playing big and playing small. “Yet Again” feels simultaneously epic and warm, and somehow manages to feel appropriate for both those lonely rooms and for sold out stadiums.
