Angel Olsen – Acrobat

September 13, 2012

It’s no surprise that that Angel Olsen has spent time on the road with Will Oldham, the ultra-prolific folk-poet behind Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. Both artists cultivate a sonic nakedness that fosters an absolutely crippling rawness — an unmediated display of self that’s so honest, you can barely look directly at it. “Acrobat” is feels both desperate and effortless, controlled and wild. The vocals are so good, so rich, so utterly infectious that sometimes you get the feeling that Olsen is simply showing off, recognizing that this album just may represent her coming out party.
