Local Natives – Breakers

October 19, 2012

Finally! It’s been a long wait for the second LP from Los Angeles rockers, Local Natives. Gorilla Manor was released back in November of 2009 and was chock full of fantastic hits such as “Airplanes” and “Wide Eyes.” It was, and still is, the perfect music to play at a picnic on a sunny day in the park. And now they are back. “Breakers” is the first single off the upcoming LP, Hummingbird. According to Pitchfork, the band produced the album along with National’s Aaron Dessner. This is great news because anything this guy touches seems to turn into gold (Dark Was the Night + Sharon Van Etten’s Tramp). “Breakers” gives us a good sense of how Local Natives are both taking steps forward, but also sticking with what they do best. P.S. Does the lead vocals not sound disturbingly like Sufjan Stevens?
