Roosevelt – Sea

December 12, 2012

Roosevelt’s “Sea” wants nothing to do with the mysteries of the ocean’s hidden depths. The German DJ’s debut single is about the ocean as freedom, a speedboat skimming sun-kissed waves: propulsive, cruising funk drives the engines below, while languid, airy vocals float up into a limitless horizon of sky above. Swept by Mediterranean breezes, “Sea” is nothing Air France hasn’t already done, and done better, but by the time the song fades away in a shimmer of pings and bleeps you realize how far you’ve been carried away by its modest magic.
