Akron/Family – Until The Morning
Akron/Family’s new LP, Sub Verses, is quietly creeping up on us and will hit the stores in less than two months. With “No-Room” and now “Until The Morning,” we are getting more and more of an idea of what kind of steps Akron/Family will be taking with the evolution of their sound. In the recent past (after Set ‘Em Wild Set ‘Em Free), they have chosen a more chaotic, bombastic route. Even the CD of S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT came with the message, “Flourish, flourish, flourish, fuck shit up.” But “Until The Morning” may signal a return to simplicity. The track sticks to a soothing synth/guitar melody with a chorus full of calming “whoa-oh-oh’s.” I hope this is the path Akron/Family is taking, because it may be what they do best. The occasional “So It Goes” is fine. In fact, those kind of tracks add a lot of substance to they albums. But the softer, more subtle tracks are really what get me hooked.
