Rogue Wave – College

April 17, 2013

Remember Rogue Wave, the smooth folk-pop band that came out with beautiful songs like “Lake Michigan,” only to disappear a little while later? Well they’re back, and have announced a new album called Nightingale Floors to be released in June. They recently posted the single from the record, and it sounds very promising. “College” takes a more polished approach than the material off of Asleep at Heaven’s Gate (2007), filling in the band’s typical spacey guitar licks with full, driving chords. Frontman Zach Schwartz maintains the band’s sentimental feel, and keeps the new track dynamic with off-kilter tempo changes and quiet bits of falsetto. If “College” is an indicator, the new album should be a refreshing mix of folk-style harmonies and dreamy shoegaze.
