Hozier – Take Me To Church

July 26, 2013

Andrew Hozier-Byrne would fit perfectly in a southern gospel choir. His lower register sounds like Willis Beal Earl and he loves singing about religion. The best moments in “Take Me To Church” are when he belts, “Amen,” pulsating in pitch as if he is having a profound religious experience. It adds an extra bit of soul to his already passionate and fervent voice. Hozier is experiencing a certain kind of religious betrayal and he is bringing us through the struggle. Luckily for him, we are all willing to go along for the ride. (P.S. Check out “Angel Of Small Death & The Codeine Scene” as well because it’s just as good if not better)
