Mark Kozelek & Desertshore – Tavoris Cloud

September 11, 2013

Mark Kozelek has graced the modern folk world since the 1990’s as a founding member of both Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon, where his style was defined by Nick Drake-esque guitar patterns and complemented by his whispered vocals. Years later, Kozelek joined Desertshore to release their self titled debut album this past August. The songwriter’s roots are still very evident, and although his playing has evolved significantly, Kozelek’s fondness for subdued fingerpicking patterns remains relevant. He reflects on the decades that have passed through the song’s refrain: “At the age of 46 I’m still one fucked-up little kid.” But when taken as a whole, the lyrics to “Tavoris Cloud” yet again paint a portrait of the beautiful and the jarring changes Kovelek observes over time. Check out the whole album below.
