SOS – Youth In Decline

July 14, 2014

Some of my favorite tracks of 2012 came from the lovely debut from Portland’s Shadows On Stars. I was immediately enamored with the way they seemed to perfectly blend the chillwave and dreampop genres together. But being so caught up in new releases the past couple years, I admittedly ended up forgetting about this talented group for some time. In my defense they seemed to fall off the grid for a bit, removing their album from Spotify and other streaming sources. I’m not sure of the reason behind this, perhaps gearing up for a re-release, but either way I’m relieved and grateful to see they are back with a new single, this time under the abbreviated name SOS. “Youth In Decline” is a bit more of an ominous transition in sound, but by no means does it represent a drop in quality, perhaps just the opposite. The heavy, hi-hat laced beat and droning bass make for one of the more powerful jams of the year so far. Hopefully this great new track is a sign that SOS is ready to take that step back into the spotlight where they so very much belong.
