Field Report – Marigolden

October 9, 2014

We’ve been big supporters of Field Report since their debut LP a couple years back. The opening track on that record, “Fergus Falls”, is easily one of our favorite folk rock tunes of the last decade. And while we are often a bit particular about what we consider to be good folk music, there’s absolutely no doubting that Field Report is one of the best bands in the genre as of late. Chris Porterfield, the man behind the anagram-based Field Report (Field Report/Porterfield, get it?), was actually originally a part of Justin Vernon’s DeYarmond Edison, so his skills as a folk artist didn’t exactly come out of nowhere. Still, he’s made some nice strides as an artist from then to now, most evident on his group’s brand new record titled Marigolden. And I’m hopeful that with this fantastic new release Field Report will begin to get a bit more recognition on a larger scale, especially for songs as exceptional as today’s featured title track, “Marigolden”.
