Galimatias – Pretty Thoughts (feat. Alina Baraz)

December 16, 2013

The dictionary defines Galimatias simply as “nonsense; gibberish.” I’m not sure of the inspiration behind the moniker, but I do know the intriguing sounds this Danish producer has been generating are nothing of the sort. His newest track featuring the lovely Alina Baraz is something of a chillstep masterpiece. It’s reminiscent of acts like Sun Glitters, especially when the deep-screwed vocals come in to complement Baraz’s amazing voice. With tracks as exceptional as “Pretty

Futurecop! – Believe In Me (Feat. Tom Schleiter)

December 13, 2013

The long awaited Futurecop! album Hopes, Dreams, & Alienation is out today! As a diehard fan of the dreamwave genre, I for one couldn’t be more excited. Futurecop! was the first group to introduce me to this emerging style of music and for that I am forever indebted to this London duo. Now for those who aren’t familiar with what dreamwave means, it’s pretty much a fancy way of describing nostalgic synth sounds circa 1980. Nostalgia is the key word here (think John Hughes films). Futurecop! is trying to relive these simpler times through the only means they know how – music. So if you’re looking to dance to a sweet bite of the past, then be sure to check out this exciting new release.

Mighty Mouse – In Front of our Friends (feat. Monarchy)

December 12, 2013

Falling in love with a song isn’t that different from meeting a love interest for the first time. They both give you that euphoric, giddy feeling that near anything is possible. Mighty Mouse has achieved such a feat with his new single “In Front of Our Friends”. Now we don’t generally post disco house tracks to this blog, but perhaps you’ll understand why we’re making an exception after giving it a full listen. Some might be dissuaded by the opening housey beat thinking it’s just another one of “those” tracks, but by the time the bassline drops and the chorus rolls around, you should be fully engrossed in this incredible jam. Mighty Mouse is already a pretty big name in the disco house scene, but this London producer will soon reach even greater heights if he keeps creating songs of this caliber.

Sun Glitters – Closer to the Sun

December 11, 2013

I can’t say much about Sun Glitters that hasn’t already been said by chillwave blogs across the globe. Over the past couple of years this guy has taken the electro scene by storm, starting with his dazzling High EP in 2012. 2013 however, has been the biggest year yet for emerging star Victor Ferreira. He’s already put out two great full length records and to top it off his brand new single “Closer to the Sun” came out last week. His tracks are characterized by low tempo beats, heavy bass, and his signature deep pitch screwed vocals. Matching an epic year like this will be a challenge for Luxembourg’s Sun Glitters, but we have all the faith in

Unconditional Arms – The Family Tree

December 10, 2013

Unconditional Arms is an intriguing new addition to the post rock genre. Inspired by his unborn son Owen (born in August), Jeffery Wright decided the only proper tribute would be to create his debut album as Unconditional Arms, fittingly titled Kinship. Now in our eyes a post rock album as epic as this one is the absolute perfect way to honor your firstborn son. It adds an additional element of sincerity and mystique to this already gripping project. “The Family Tree” is the opening track to the album and it sets up the other songs perfectly. It’s a heartfelt, guitar-laden melody that is a sort of calm before the storm – albeit a beautiful storm. We are quite excited to see where Wright’s life inspirations take him for future works as Unconditional Arms.

AVAN LAVA – So F*kt Up

December 6, 2013

AVAN LAVA have already made quite the name for themselves. Their 2012’s Flex Fantasy EP turned plenty of heads, resulting in some epic sold out NYC shows and an ever-expanding fanbase. Until now they’ve only ventured into the more danceable aspects of electro pop, but with their new single it’s apparent they are set on diversifying their sound. “So F*kt UP” is a moving R&B jam disguised as a trap beat. The heavy bass and rapidfire hi-hats add a surprisingly nice element to a track that I can’t help but get a bit emotional to. We always appreciate artists pushing the limits of their sound, and in AVAN LAVA’s case it sure has paid off. We expect this Brooklyn trio to be nothing short of a household name by the end of next year.

Tandem Felix – Ryan Hoguet

December 5, 2013

Dublin based psychedelic rock four piece Tandem Felix are poised for success. After releasing an outstanding debut EP earlier this year, they’re back at it with two more tracks of equal or greater awesomeness. “Ryan Hoguet” is one of those spacey, drawn out jams that leaves you feeling woozy without having had a drink. It’s definitely a psychedelic rock track at its core, but you’ll notice that this intriguing new act doesn’t seem to follow by one specific formula. The one constant you’ll find on all their songs though is the exceptional guitar work that seems to epitomize what this aspiring young group is all about. We absolutely cannot wait to see what the future holds for newcomers Tandem Felix.

Rosie Lowe – Games

December 4, 2013

More melodious goodness coming to you from the UK today by way of singer/songwriter Rosie Lowe. It’s already been an incredible year for the soul/R&B genre and this lovely track does nothing but add more icing to the cake. Perhaps I was behind the curve on this artist, but ever since her debut EP Right Thing was released this week her name’s been swirling around the blogosphere. Whatever be the case, we are grateful for another low-key, heartfelt jam like “Games” that arrives just in time for those all-important year end decisions to be made. There’s no doubt you’ll be seeing our friend Rosie Lowe on more than a few of these charts and perhaps even next year as well with a full length record in the works.

Julien Mier – Super Tropic Tramp

December 3, 2013

The end of the year is fast approaching. “Best of” charts are already emerging and if you’re anything like me then you’re struggling to determine who exactly makes the cut. I’m grateful for a low-key album release week like this to help get caught up on the hundreds of 2013 releases we’ve yet to get to. Julien Mier is one of these artists we’re just getting around to discovering. He’s a seriously talented electronic producer that leaves me baffled as to why he’s so under recognized. One thing we immediately noticed with his work is the intricacy of his beats. This guy puts a lot of time and effort into each track, and that’s made most apparent with jams like “Super Tropic Tramp.” It starts out as a sort of trap beat, but by the midway point an absolute beautiful chaos ensues. We can’t wait to see what else this creative Dutch producer cooks up as his career takes off.
